What an amazing 🤩 time we had at Stanbrook Abbe

What an amazing 🤩 time we had at Stanbrook Abbey 🕍, for our "Monastery Days" ✝️ there! Stanbrook is situated in the most stunning location 🤩 just on the edge of the North York Moors 🐑with far reaching views 🔭 beyond the City of York.

Here are some pics📷 of the Day🕍 for you! As you can see, we were made very welcome by the Abbess😇, Dame Anna Brennan, and all of the Sisters💜, who contributed in so many different ways to a joyous Day.🤗

Sister Philippa gave the most insightful and moving😟 account of the connection between Stanbrook Abbey⛪ and the Carmelite Martyrs✝️ of Compiègne. This year the Community⛪ celebrate a 400 year Jubilee. Part of their history includes being imprisoned during the French Revolution with the French Carmelites who went to the guillotine. 🪓 We were able to see and venerate the relics of these Martyrs. 🙏🏻

Special thanks must go to Sister Josephine 😇, who organised everything for us 💜, and to Sister Steven, who bravely🏅 supervised the cleaning and polishing of the beautiful Mouseman Refectory table and chairs... within the Monastic Enclosure too! 😅

Can't believe😮 that it is a week since many YouCANners 👫 attended Jacinta 👰🏻‍♀️ and Marcin's🤵🏻‍♂️ Wedding Celebrations 🥳 in Birmingham. It was a beautiful day, so full of joy and laughter🥰.

Many of us 👫 stayed in various places in Birmingham overnight 🛌🏻, and then met for Mass 🍞🍷 at St Chad's Catholic Cathedral 🕍 in the Jewellery Quarter! What a stunning Church it is! 🤩 Do visit!

Alongside beautiful music🎶 from the voluntary Choir 👼🏻, we were treated to a stirring Homily 📖 from Fr Craig Szmidt, who is the Vocations Director✝️ for the Archdiocese of Birmingham.

We managed😆 to persuade Fr. Craig😁 to join us👫 in an impromptu photo opportunity 📸 on the Sanctuary steps✝️, and here is the pic!🤣

It was an incredibly interesting day 😄 for a few members of the YouCAN 👫East Midlands Regional Group, and this time exploring Lincoln 🏙️!

The day started off quite wet and windy 🫣 so they headed into the magnificent Cathedral⛪ for a look around. Just as they were leaving the Cathedral, the clouds made way to some sunshine 🌄 and so they were able to have a nice sunny stroll around the City and the Castle 🏰

They ended the day with a coffee☕, as you do, and then sadly off back home. 😕

It was another amazing 🤩 "Monastery Days" ⛪ at the Bernadine Cistercian Brownshill Monastery near Stroud!

YouCANners👫 from our South West and Wales Regional Group met for Mass 🍞 🍷, Confessions, Divine Office, Prayer🙏🏻, and Studying the Psalms🎼 with the excellent Sr. Philippa. We were asked to think 🤔 about our own👫 relationship with God, and how we live out being Christians✝️ where we live, work and socialise.💜

An important part of the day was, as always, getting to know others 👫. It was wonderful to chat with the Sisters over afternoon tea🫖, and to get to know the Chaplain, Fr. Ted😇 (real name! 😂). No one wanted to leave 😕: a good sign of a successful day. 🤗

While members of YouCAN 👫Cymru 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷

While members of YouCAN 👫Cymru 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 were hiking up Skirrid Fawr near Abergavenny, members👫 of both the North East and North West Regional Groups 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 took on a much tougher challenge⛰️!

They👫 had an incredible day hiking🚶🏻‍♀️to the summit of Skiddaw🚶🏻‍♀️in the beautiful Lake District 🏞️ ! Skiddaw at 931-metre (3,054 ft) is one of the highest peaks⛰️ in England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿...third or sixth, depending on how you measure these things! 😅

Thankfully the sun 🌞 shone ... a little 🤗, and there was no rain, although it was a bit was windy! They also bravely camped out, although it must be said that views from the campsite were incredible and made the experience worthwhile! 🏞️

It was a rather different YouCAN 👫 "Monastery Days" 🕍 today with Belmont Abbey, as we were based at the Church of Our Lady 👸🏻and Saint Michael 👼🏻in Abergavenny. The Church is 💒 looked after by Fr. Matthew, one of the Belmont Monks.🤗

We also launched our YouCAN 👫 Cymru Regional Group 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿! James Mulcahy, one of the Regional Admins 😄organised some special celebratory cupcakes for us, to mark the occasion!🧁

We had a very full day including Mass 🍞 🍷, Confessions 🛐, Adoration ☀️, and a wide ranging discussion based around the Sunday Mass Readings 🎚️with the excellent Fr. Jonathan Rawlinson 😇, one of the Belmont Monks. Making 🙋🏻‍♀️ new friends and meeting old, is also always a wonderful part of the Day.👫

In the afternoon, most of the group👫, together with Fr. Jonathan😁, headed off on a walk 🚶🏻‍♀️to the top of the Michaels Mount, or Skirrid Fawr, in Welsh. It was a wonderful walk🚶🏻‍♀️, with magnificent views! ⛰️ Also, the sun 🌞 shone! 🤣

It was another incredible 💥weekend and this time for YouCANers from our Southern England Regional Group, and others😃, at Quarr Abbey on the beautiful Isle of Wight 🏖️! It was fun getting there as we all had to take either the car ferry 🛳️ or hovercraft! 🤩

As much as possible we followed the Divine Office and adhered to the Great Silence 🤐 from the end of Compline to after Mass✝️ , and no talking at meal times😲 either. The silence actually proved amazingly popular! 😅

As with all of YouCAN's 👫 "Monastery Days"✝️, in addition to Mass 🍞 🍷, there was Adoration 🔥, Confession, the Divine Office, Prayer🙏🏻, and Lectio Divina, 📖 about which Fr. Luke gave an excellent talk🤗. Fr. Nicholas spoke about forms of Prayer🙏 that was quite amazing, with Br. Mathew tomorrow scheduled to answer our many questions ❓ about Monastic life.🕍

As if that wasn't enough, we 👫 really enjoyed😅 herding some escaped sheep 🐑 continually circling a flower bed, immediately in front of the Abbey Church⛪, back into their field! 🤣 This did, however, give us an opportunity to have a very quick photo 📷with Abbot Xavier Perrin ✝️ who came to assist with the herding operation! 🐑

It really was an incredible day 💥 at Douai Abbey 🕍 for some of those YouCANners 👫 recently Received into the Catholic Church ✝️. They were at the Monastery yesterday for the first meet up of the YouCAN "Douai Group" 🤗, established to give these "new" Catholics continuing support.👥

It was a beautifully relaxed 😎 Day, with plenty of opportunity to discuss🫂 individual faith journeys 👣, Mass🍷🍞, Adoration🙏🏻 and Benediction. The Prior, Fr. Gabriel Wilson, together with Fr. Alban Hood, offered the group👫 the opportunity to make their Confessions🛐, together with Spiritual Direction, that proved immensely valuable.❤️‍🔥

What an incredible💥 "Monastery Days" Weekend members of the YouCAN 👫South West Regional Group had at Buckfast Abbey🕍 with the Community of Saint Gregory the Great 😇! Here are a selection of pics 🎥 for you, and perhaps enjoy the video at the end too! 😅

Some of the group 👫chose to walk 🚶🏻‍♀️the Saint Boniface Way, a pilgrimage walk following in the footsteps 👣 of the great Devonian Saint 😇. It was a hot 🥵 day, but the group 🚶🏻‍♀️ managed 12 of the 17 miles hike. 😅

Others members of the group stayed back at the Abbey 🕍 for a Quiet Day with the Community. This comprised prayer 🛐, Mass 🍞🍷 chatting with the Community👥, and strolling through the local Hembury Woods.🌳

We👫 had a lot of fun🤣 preparing our meals 🍽️, and then clearing and washing up 🧽too! The cleaning staff will be impressed! 🤗

Members of the YouCAN 👫 Community get around! 👣 Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 last week, and England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 this!

Over the weekend members👫 of both the North East and North West Regional Groups🫂 had an incredible day hiking 🚶🏻‍♀️to the summit of Helvellyn🚶🏻‍♀️ in the beautiful Lake District 🏞️ ! An added bonus was that the sun 🌞 shone brightly all day🤗! They managed a picnic lunch🧺, and had a barbeque for supper🫕.

As part of our "Monastery Days" 🕍 initiative , YouCANners 👫 will be spending the May Bank Holiday 🤣weekend next year with the Cistercian ✝️ Monastic Community of Caldey Island, just off the South coast of Wales🏝️. With the launch of our new Cymru Regional Group 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿, our visit is most timely! 🤗

Rina spent last weekend on Caldey 🏝️planning the trip, and agreeing the programme with the Abbot 😇, Fr. Jan Rossi. It is going to be amazing! 💥

Here are some pics 🎥of her visit, including some of the Monastic Community at Adoration☀️, the Parish Church ⛪ of Saint David🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿, with beautiful stained glass window of a fish 🐟, and the stunning beach 🏖️, where the boats from the mainland arrive. 🛥️

A real surprise 🥳was meeting the natives of Caldey: red🐿️ squirrels! The Monks 😇 maintain feeding stations for these beautiful creatures throughout the island🏝️. The squirrels appear in the early evening, when their constant chattering is pure delight! 😍

YouCAN 👫 are so excited to tell you that we now

YouCAN 👫 are so excited to tell you that we now have a Cymru🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 Regional Group! With the Monastic Community of Belmont Abbey, their first meet up will be at the Church ⛪ of Our Lady and Saint Michael in Abergavenny on 5 October, 2024. 🤗

On 5 October, 🕍, we will celebrate Mass🥖🍷 together and Confession will also will be available 🛐 We can do some Bible Study📖 too!. In the afternoon, weather permitting 😁, we will hike to St Michael’s Mount🚶🏻‍♀️ calling in to see a house used for worship in secret 🙏🏻 during the Reformation and the Jesse Tree🌲, dedicated to Catherine of Aragon 👸🏻.

Members of the YouCAN 👫 South West and Wales Re

Members of the YouCAN 👫 South West and Wales Regional Group had an incredible weekend away camping 🏕️in the Brecon Beacons🏞️ ! The group👫 were blessed with reasonable weather, unlike last year 😅, and bravely forded stream and climbed 🧗🏻‍♀️mountains to reach the summit of Pen Y Fan.⛰️

There was plenty of other things to do too, including their own barbeque 🫕 and boating 🛶, alongside the joy of camping! 🏕️ The local Catholic Community at Saint Michael's Church ⛪ in Brecon, made them especially welcome at Sunday Mass. ✝️
