This pic is of the sun 🌞 rising in the Judaen Wilderness, a place that Jesus ☀️ would have known well. There are numerous references in the Bible 📖 of Him travelling from Jericho 🌁 to Jerusalem🏛️. His route would most definitely have taken him through this desolate but somehow beautiful land.

Signposted from the new motorway connecting Jericho 🌁 and Jerusalem 🏛️, is a sign pointing to the site of the Inn referred to in the parable of the Good Samaritan.☀️

Although no details are given in Luke’s 📖 Gospel as to the whereabouts of this Inn, by the fifth century, the church father✝️ Jerome writes that the site of the inn is identified as Ma’ale Adummim, along the Jerusalem-Jericho road, and that there is a way-station 🏫for travellers located there.

In the late 1990s, an excavation at Ma’ale Adummim began. It was discovered that the site had been rebuilt in several historical periods—the late Second Temple 🏛️period, the Byzantine period🏰, the Crusader period and the Ottoman period—and in every phase the site had apparently functioned as a khan, or way-station for travellers🏫.

In the Byzantine period a church⛪ was also built at the site, suggesting its importance as a pilgrimage site👣 for early Christians✝️. The floor of the church was once a beautiful mosaic of geometric patterns that had largely disappeared in modern times. 🕯️🙏💜

In this pic a YouCAN group 👭 renew their Baptismal Promises 💦 at Qasr al-Yahud. This is the section of the Jordan River where it is believed Saint 😇 John the Baptist baptised Jesus ☀️.

After the Six Day War in 1967 🔫 the border between the West Bank and Jordan was heavily mined.🌋 This included the area around Qasr al-Yahud 💦 where eight Churches were to be found.

In 2016 the HALO😇 Trust secured the approval of the Israelis, Palestinians and all these churches to clear the landmines🌋. The Catholic Church and seven Eastern churches ✝️—Armenian, Coptic, Ethiopian, Greek, Romanian, Syrian and Russian—have churches or land on the minefield.⛪

It is believed that the site is now totally clear, and the Churches are in the process of reconstruction.⛪

In this pic a YouCAN 👭 group say Prayers at the bottom of the Sacred Pit ⚫. This is underneath Saint Peter in Gallicantu Church on Mount Zion in Jerusalem. The Church is built over the probable site of Caiaphas' palace 🏛️.

On the lowest level there is a network of first-century caves, one of which is known as the Sacred Pit.⚫ Here the early Christians believed Jesus ☀️ was held prisoner the night before He died.✝️

The Sacred Pit is about fifteen feet square and twenty feet deep. ⚫The only entrance in Jesus' time was through a narrow, bottleneck opening at the top, through which a prisoner was lowered by a harness of ropes secured around shoulders and chest. 😣

It is very upsetting😣 to stand here and think about Jesus ☀️ being in this place. 🕯️🙏💜

This video is of a YouCAN 👭 group visiting the Basilica, or Church, of the Annunciation in Nazareth 🏙️.The Basilica is constructed over the cave that tradition tells us was the home of the Virgin Mary 🥀

Here the archangel Gabriel 👼told the young Mary, aged about 14, that she would become the mother of God. Mary replied “Let it be done to me according to your word.”🥀

In Latin across the façade of the Basilica are the words “The Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us” (📖 John 1:14).☀️ Also on the façade are the reliefs of Mary, Gabriel and the four evangelists😇, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Above them is a bronze statue of Jesus☀️.

The Basilica became the largest Christian church in the Middle East when it was completed in 1969.✝️The cupola, which dominates Nazareth, is surmounted by a lantern symbolising the Light of the World.🕯️🙏💜

One of many highlights of a YouCAN 👭👫👬 Pilgrimage to the Holy Land, is a visit to the School 🏫 of Joy in Beit Sahour, which is near Bethlehem 🏙️. The 🏫 School, founded and run by Catholic Priest ✝️ Father Mamdouh AbuSada, educates children 🤼 with learning difficulties.

Some of the children 🤼 were homeless, so the 🏫 also provides a home 🏡 for them. It also equips them to earn a living ⚒️ by training them in the local craft; olive wood carving🗿.

The YouCAN 👭👫👬 Pilgrims all bring gifts, and play and chat with the children. It is very difficult leaving as it is a wonderful occasion, and the Group are always made very welcome ❤️. Many former YouCAN 👬👫👭 pilgrims now provide financial support to some of the children🤼.🕯️🙏❤️

"All scripture 📖 is inspired by God☀️☀️☀️ and can profitably be used for teaching👩‍🎓, for refuting error, for guiding people’s lives and teaching them to be holy😔. This is how the man who is dedicated to God☀️☀️☀️ becomes fully equipped and ready for any good work ❤️." ( 📖 2 Timothy 3:16-17)

This is where Saint Jerome 😇 translated the Bible 📖 into Latin in 382 to 383. He began by revising the earlier Latin 🖌️ translations, but eventually went back to the original Greek and Hebrew wherever he could 📖.

His translation 🖌️ came to be known as the Vulgate, and was the authoritative Latin text 📖 until the Council of Trent (1545 to 1563) called for a new and corrected edition👼.

Although accessed from the Catholic Church of Saint Catherine ⛪ in Bethlehem, this underground Chapel of Saint Jerome ✝️ physically abuts the Nativity Grotto👶, the place where Christ ☀️☀️☀️ was born. Saint Jerome 😇 died and was buried here ⚰️ in this Chapel until his body was exhumed and moved to Santa Maria Maggiore Church ⛪ in Rome.🕯️🙏❤️

Along the route Pilgrims 👣 stop at marked points, Stations, to remember the details of Christ's ☀️☀️☀️painful journey from the Antonine Fortress 🏰 to his Crucifixion on Calvary ✝️. At each Station there are Readings from the Bible 📖, prayers🙏 and reflections 🤔.

This pic📱was taken at the end of that journey on the Via Dolorosa. The last two Stations, Calvary ✝️ and the Holy Sepulchre ⚫ are inside the Church ⛪ of the Holy Sepulchre where it will be busy. For that reason, and out of respect for those praying 🙏 inside the Church ⛪ , Pilgrims 👣 remember these final two Stations on the roof of the Church ⛪ itself! 🕯️🙏💜

Feast 🎉 of Saint Matthew 😇, Apostle and Evangelist

"As Jesus☀️☀️☀️ was walking on, he saw a man named Matthew 🧔sitting by the customs house 🏡, and he said to him, ‘Follow me☀️.’☀️☀️ And he got up 🧔and followed him." (📖 Matthew 9:9)

For many Pilgrims 👣 visiting the Holy Land ✝️, the place where they feel closest to Jesus☀️☀️☀️ is in the region known as The Galilee. In this pic📱, taken from the Mount of the Beatitudes, you can see the Sea of Galilee 🚢 with the city of Tiberius ⛰️ on the far side. This area is surprisingly undeveloped, and most likely looks 👀 substantially as it did in Jesus' time☀️☀️☀️.

It is very easy to imagine 😔 Jesus ☀️☀️☀️ seeing 😮 the same things, hearing🤔 the same sounds, and smelling🤥 the same smells, as we 👨‍👩‍👦 do today. He also walked 👣 in the same places that we now walk, and somehow His☀️☀️☀️ presence can still be felt😔. It is very difficult to put this feeling into words 🗣️, but it is there ✝️.

Mathew 😇 was a tax collector 🤑 and his customs house 🏡 was situated outside Capernaum 🏙️. Capernaum was on the shores of the Sea of Galilee 🚢, and was situated just down the hill from where this pic📱 was taken. Mathew 😇 too would have been familiar with this landscape 👀.

YouCAN 👭👫👬will be making a Pilgrimage 👣 to the Holy Land ✝️ in 2021. Maybe think 🤔 about joining us?

This Cross ✝️ is over the entrance to the Milk 🍼 Grotto in Bethlehem 🌃 .There is a legend that Mary 👸 spilt some milk while breast feeding baby Jesus👶 ,and this is the reason for the white stone of the cave ⚪.

Many believe that he milky white rock ⚪ covering the grotto’s interior, can help childless woman conceive. Women of all religions🧕🙎‍♀️ will come here to pray for a child. Pilgrims will also take powder produced from the white stone⚪ home with them, and give it to women🧕🙎‍♀️ who cannot have children👶. Special prayers 🙏 will be said, asking for a miracle 🌈.

A tradition going back to the VII century located at this site the burial place⚫ of the innocent victims👶 killed by Herod the Great🤴 after the birth of Jesus☀️☀️☀️.🕯️🙏💜

This pic📱shows a YouCAN 👭👫👬 group waiting to enter the Edicule that contains the Holy Sepulchre ⚫, or tomb, of Christ☀️☀️☀️. It was here that He was first buried, and then raised from the dead ✝️.

The Edicule (from the Latin aedicule, or "little house🏡"), is a small structure enclosing the remains of a cave ⚫ that has been venerated since at least the fourth century A.D. as the tomb ⚫ of Christ☀️☀️☀️.

The interior of the holy Edicule 🏡 is divided in two sections, the ante-room, which is called the Holy Stone or Chapel of the Angel 😇, and the main burial ⚰️chamber, the Most Holy Sepulchre⚫. In the middle of the ante-room, on a small square table ⬛ and in a special marble box, is kept a part of the stone on which the angel 😇 stood when he announced Christ’s resurrection ✝️.

The Holy Sepulchre ⚫ itself consists of a square room carved in the rock⛰️, which was covered with marble slabs during the last restoration🛠️. The actual tomb ⚫ is to the north of this chamber, and its main and upper sides are covered with two white marble slabs ⬜⬜.

There is only room for 3, at most 4, people kneeling 🛐 next to the marble slab covering the place where Christ's body lay before the Resurrection ✝️. It is important to mentally prepare your prayer 🙏 before entering, as each Pilgrim is only allowed a minute or so to make their Petitions.💜

With the Calvary Chapel ✝️, this is the holiest place on Earth 🌍🌎🌏. Praying here is a deeply moving experience beyond human expression.🕯️🙏💜

This pic 📱 was taken in the beautiful Wedding Church 👰🤵 at Cana. It was here that Jesus ☀️☀️☀️ performed his first known Miracle 🎆 of turning water 🥤 into wine 🍷 so as not to embarrass the bride 👰 and groom 🤵 who had run out of wine.

This is always a joyful 🤗 Church in which to celebrate Mass🍞🍷. Generally there is a married couple 👩‍❤️‍👨 in the group who wish to renew their wedding vows 💞 in this special place. There is also locally produced Cana wine to add authenticity to the occasion!🕯️🙏❤️
