Discerning and Responding to the Voice of Christ.
Friday 9 to Sunday 11 June 2023
Programme
The daily Mass and Offices, celebrated in the Abbey Church, are at the core of life at Pluscarden Abbey. The Monastic Community pray in Latin, using Gregorian Chant. All of the offices, including Mass, are in Latin, with Mass readings and Gospel in English. Latin translations are available if you would like them.
Please approach any of the Priests at any time during the Retreat if you wish to make your Reconciliation.
Talks will take place in the South Transept.
Meals and refreshments will be in Saint Scholastica’s.
FRIDAY 9 June 2023
Arrival at Abbey Shop from 4 pm
5.30 pm Vespers followed by half an hour of silent prayer in common
6.30 pm Tour of Abbey Church. Meet outside shop.
7.30 pm Compline
9 pm, or after Compline, Supper, followed by
Introductions, and outline of the Retreat from Rina
SATURDAY 10 June 2023
4.30 am Vigils (Optional!)
6.15 am Lauds (again, optional!), followed by breakfast
9 am Mass, with Prime at the beginning of Mass, and Terce at the end of Mass
10.10 am, or after Terce, refreshments
10.30 am First Talk from Rt. Rev. Hugh Gilbert OSB, Bishop of Aberdeen “What is the ‘voice’ of Christ: how do I know that He is speaking to me?”
11.30 am Short break
11.45 am Second Talk from Dom Anselm Atkinson, Abbot of Pluscarden Abbey “What is Christ asking me to do?”
12.40 pm Sext
1 pm Lunch
2.30 pm None
3 pm Third Talk from Dom Giles Conacher, a Monk of Pluscarden Abbey “How should I respond? How do I know that I am doing the right thing”
4 pm Break
4.15 pm “How I responded to Christ’s Voice!” A selection of Speakers will be available to share their own Vocation story, including Sr. Mary Gianna of the Dominican Order and Sr. Francesca Therese of the Order of St. John.
5.30 pm Vespers followed by half an hour of silent prayer in common.
6 pm, or after Vespers, supper
7.30 pm Compline followed by “Panel Discussion: an opportunity to ask all of our speakers questions about how to discern and respond to the “voice” of Christ”
SUNDAY 11 June 2023
4.30 am Vigils (Optional!)
6.15 am Lauds (again, optional!), followed by breakfast
9 am Prime
9.45 Terce
10 am Mass followed by Corpus Christi Procession in the Grounds of the Abbey
Adoration to follow Procession
11.30 am, refreshments.
12.40 Sext
After Sext, Sunday lunch
End of Retreat after lunch, although you are welcome to stay until you are ready to leave.
